Creating Sacred Space for Summer Solstice

There are times in our lives – days, weeks, months, or even years – when we experience the intensity of life more than usual. It could be due to stress at work, or our children going through challenges, or our most significant relationship being under pressure, or the strain of caring for a loved one, or the pain of losing a loved one, or we are unable to find fulfilling work. It could be our own illness, or the demands of traveling out of necessity, whatever the reason. No matter what’s going on, we sometimes won’t or don’t take the time to stop and contemplate, meditate, or go within to soothe and nourish our spiritual selves. The Summer Solstice is a perfect time to give yourself a much-needed break and do just that.

During the Winter Solstice we experience the longest night of the year. Unlike the Winter Solstice which happens in the middle of the busy December holidays, the Summer Solstice seems to beacon us to reflect, contemplate, and just breathe. Around the world, especially among indigenous cultures, many people are in-tune with the earth cycles which Summer Solstice represents. The first day of the Summer Solstice is when we experience the longest daylight of the year. In both instances it is a time of year when, for four days, the veil between the physical world and the ethereal world is thinned, allowing us easier access to connect to the spiritual and have influence on our goals and desires. So, consider this June 21st through the 24th a time to give yourself a break from the world and focus on what’s most important to you. Contemplate and meditate upon these ideas.

How would we do this? For example, you can fast, if you are able to, or at least cut out the junk food and eat purer food from nature. Limit television and/or radio, and abstain from social media during this time. Refrain from unnecessary phone time, and instead listen intentionally to the silence; just be with yourself. If the silence is too much or doesn’t feel comfortable, ease the tension by playing some sacred music or reading sacred books. You might consider wearing all-white or as much white clothing as possible while observing the solstice.

There is a reward for this kind of sacrifice. Often, greater insight comes into focus, maybe heightened intuition, and a peacefulness or calmness. Do some gentle stretching, tai-chi, contemplative walking, or breathing exercises. Or spend time in nature: visit the park, the botanic garden, or the ocean, river, lake, or the woods…and just be.

Also, this is a time to set an intention for what you wish to accomplish in upcoming months. This can be done via mantras, visualization, or whatever works for you in your own mindful practices. Use our Spiritual Spritzers and Sacred Resins to help you shift your consciousness and go deeper. Wishing you a very Happy Summer Solstice!
