Get Yourself a Squatty Potty
About a year ago I decided to acquire a Squatty Potty because I have known since my college days that sitting on a toilet, a western invention, is not the healthiest way to release your bowels. You may wonder why I am bringing this up. What does a Squatty Potty have to do with healthy hair, smelling and looking good, beauty, and all that Anu Essentials represents? It has everything to do with it because it's all connected. Beauty starts from within. Being able to fully release toxins from your body, will greatly improve your your health and therefore your looks.
Sitting on toilets is not good for us in general, this is all the more true regarding toilets that are very high from the ground. If you haven't noticed, options for higher toilets have increased. Why, you may ask? Well, it's to aid the elderly who may not have the strength in their legs to sit low or to get up easily from sitting low. This is not the case in indigenous cultures where everyone from babies to elders will assume the squatting position just to give their legs a rest. I've seen Asian elders and the not-so-elderly Asians taking this position in the subways of New York. It's called the resting squat. If you are in the market for a toilet, purchase the shortest one offered. Standard heights of toilets are around 14.5 inches with high johns ranging from 17-19 inches. This as opposed to indigenous people when squatting are about one inch away from the ground. This one-inch distance makes for an easier, more fulfilling, and complete evacuation of the bowels. Toddlers also know this is the easiest way to eliminate "it". They will squat with the quickness.Dr. Robert Edwards, a contractor designed the Squatty Potty to help his sickly mother get closer to the squatting position on the john. "The modern toilet has been sold to us as civilized, but the straining that sitting cause is not healthy," Edwards tells Shots- Health Desk from NPR . Squatting, on the other hand, or getting closer to squatting with the help of the Squatty Potty, can end hemorrhoids, prevent colon disease, improve pelvic floor issues, and offer numerous other benefits."Once again, I am bringing up the practice of squatting. Using a Squatty Potty makes it easier for those of us living in the western world sitting on toilets. It approximates the natural squatting position that is best and easiest for elimination. It's a nominal investment for your colon health. Better evacuation of the bowels makes for a healthier body which makes for a better disposition. There are numerous versions of the Squatty Potty. Of course, I preferred a wooden Squatty Potty over plastic, because I thought that wood looked more attractive. In the end, I purchased the one with the tallest height, which turned out to be white and plastic. The good thing is that it blends in more with the toilet, functionality over esthetics. I did have the opportunity to use a wooden Squatty Potty at a friend's house and couldn't believe how short it was. She had purchased hers during her pregnancy to assist with constipation (something that can occur from taking iron supplements). When I commented on the shortness of her Squatty Potty, she reminded me that she, too, is rather short. No matter your height, I would still recommend the tallest Squatty Potty and the shortest toilet. When first starting out using a Squatty Potty, girls and women may want to put their feet back on the floor during urination until you get the hang of it, then immediately put their feet back up on the Squatty Potty for ease of bowel evacuation. Yeah, it's not the cutest conversation, but it's one that will improve and enhance your overall well being and cause your skin to glow. Enjoy!!!
