This Maat cycle began on September 1st on the new moon. Right now Mercury is Retrograde and I will blame Mercury for the incredible delay in posting this article on Maat. While I’ve been writing the post in my head for weeks, it's so late in the cycle that I questioned whether to post this at all. But I felt I had to pay homage to this auspicious deity and her many attributes. This is my fourth post of the virtues of Khametic deities. Please know that while I feel compelled to write about the many virtues of the deities, in no way is this meant to imply that have full possession of these virtues. I, like you, am a spiritual being having a human experience, with my faults and shortcomings. But being mindful of these aspects of the Divine, I am reminded to aspire to do my best.Maat is known as The Goddess of Law and Order and often pictured holding a scale. The scale is used to weigh your heart against a feather. If your heart is heavy causing imbalance in the scale, you will not be able to enter the Halls of Maat. She is that aspect of the Divine that represents: Truth, Harmony, Balance, Order, Reciprocity, Propriety, Justice and great Love. And there are also the 42 Confessions of Maat.Often represented as a young woman, sitting or standing, holding a was scepter, the symbol of power, in one hand and an ankh, the symbol of eternal life, in the other. Maat is also often depicted kneeling with her arms as wings that are spread open.Maat also represents great wealth, prosperity. Her great wealth is generated by her innate generosity. She gives seeking nothing in return. One of the great qualities of Maat is continuous optimism. Maat never worries, never has doubts for she has truth and therefore joy as her constant companions. Are you worrying or do you have faith? You can take a pulse check here on how well you’re working with Maat during her cycle. Have you been feeling more generous or more selfish? Are you practicing balance in your life and is there order or chaos? How are you in the realm of propriety, reciprocity and justice? Are you judging yourself and or others? These are some questions to contemplate during your quiet time.Seated at the 4th sphere on the Tree of Life, Maat is the start of the second triad. It is still quite high up on The Tree and one who is able to possess and function from this aspect of the Divine, is truly illuminated. You may have come across someone who possesses some of these exceptional qualities. In the Hindu religion Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth, prosperity and property, in both the material and spiritual realms, represents Maat.Lakshmi is the deity of good fortune. I love this passage by www.Koausa.org that explains the one of auspicious ways of Lakshmi / Maat. It states, “The lotus seat, which Lakshmi is standing upon, signifies that while living in this world, one should enjoy its wealth, but not become obsessed with it. Such a living is analogous to a lotus that grows in water but is not wetted by water”.Maat is ruled by the planet Jupiter and her day of the week is Thursday. Her color is sky blue for spiritual power and yellow for planetary power. Her gemstones are yellow sapphire, lapis lazuli and tin. Time of the year is Sidereal full moon in Pisces. Her herbs include thuja, anise and honeysuckle. Her oils are anise, oak moss and lotus for Lakshmi. In your prayers and or meditations ask Maat for guidance, to open your heart, for prosperity and propriety in your life? Contemplate and meditate on her great virtues.
