Blooming Geraniums
One of my neighbors, is new to the neighborhood, new as a homeowner and as a gardener. But she is a real quick study and jumped right in with turning her thumb a great shade of green. The lovely geraniums she put out on her brownstone steps this past spring are still blooming. It’s now November, we’re ten degrees below normal, with temps in the low 30’s and these flowers look as perky as ever. Each day when I leave my home and see that my dear neighbor has not one, but three different geranium plants still vibrant and blooming with color, I am both delighted and amazed. And I know what I’ll be buying more of next spring…Seeing these Geraniums bloom in this weather reminds me of how much I like and use geranium oil. It is a floral scent that is not often used in natural perfumery, since it is considered too common for such a high art. But when it comes to aromatherapy and healing geranium still holds its own.I love mixing geranium and lavender oils to scent my bath when I’ve had a hard day or a taxing workout. It has a soothing scent and helps me to relax and linger longer in my bath. It is also great as an antiseptic and as an astringent. I also use some geranium in the Anu Essentials Fresh products, like the Fresh Body Butter and Fresh Soap. So if you’re in the mood for a pick me up remember the hardy and helpful geranium.
