Many of you may already be aware of my love and appreciation for the five-thousand-year-old practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).  As a former student of TCM, I am quite aware of its profound modalities that allow the body to repair and heal itself naturally.  A dear friend recently referred me to a Qigong exercise class done while sitting and using just the hands.  I found it fascinating.  After taking that class on YouTube, I was game for the next video cued up, a full-body form of exercise.  Qigong is a form of acupressure that wakes up the vital body energy, the subtle body by stimulating the meridians and toning internal organs.  I want to recommend three short videos and one long video of Qigong for you to choose from, to enjoy trying it out.

First up, the 10 Fingers Video is such a wonderful way to wake up the body and stimulate the organs that correspond to the area being stimulated by the movements.  In this video, Brother Insight (or Thích Man Tue) sits crossed-legged as he does the hand movements, but you can do as I did and sit in your bed or on a chair.

The second video consists of total-body-movements and takes forty-four-minutes.  Yes, that seemed like a long time, so, I thought I’d just do the first fifteen minutes.  However, curiosity got the best of me. I was intrigued to see what movements would be next, so I just kept going until I had completed the entire video; it was so much fun!  If you don’t have that much time, there are shorter fifteen-minute videos by Brother Insight that are just as effective.

Admittedly, some of these total body movements made me smile and even laugh. They are so simple, yet, invigorating, calming, healing, and help to purify the blood. I guess they call him Brother Insight for a reason.

Last but not least, the Qigong Facial Massage Video, done by a lovely woman named Kseny, makes the face and eyes glow to bring forth a healthy radiance.  When you think about it when was the last time you massaged your face?  If you’re like me, you never even thought about doing such a thing. It is an invigorating experience.  Even if it didn’t change your face, it feels so good; therefore, some form of change is occurring. I found that I was better able to enjoy the facial massage by applying just a little Anu Essentials Luxe Body Oil to my face beforehand, which helped my fingers glide over my face during the exercise, thereby making the movements smoother.

In addition to doing these movements as a daily practice, they can also help if you happen to wake up restlessly in the middle of the night.  Instead of tossing and turning and feeling frustrated, try one of the short videos, like the 10-finger video, the facial massage video, or one of the fifteen-minute standing videos to calm and relax, and possibly fall back to sleep.  In-joy!
