Pomegranate and Your Skin

Autumn is the time of year when a favorite fruit of mine is in season, the sweet, juicy and messy pomegranate. A very special and recurring memory from my childhood is that of my grandfather’s arrival to our home with a bag full of large, deeply red pomegranates from the tree in his backyard in Norfolk, Virginia. When as a child my family relocated to Brooklyn, New York, I was so surprised to hear my friends refer to pomegranates as Chinese apples. As you might imagine, I never called them by that name.

In recent years, the pomegranate has gained much cache due to the popularity and consumption of pomegranate juice. And it makes sense considering its many benefits. Pomegranates are loaded with antioxidants, they have anti inflammatory properties, is said to reduce blood pressure, may fight arthritis and joint pain and the list goes on and on.

Pomegranates are not only good for the inside of the body, but they have plenty to offer to the outside of the body as well, which is why pomegranate seed oil is one of the lush and lubricating oils in our Body Polish. I chose to feature pomegranate seed oil in our Body Polish because of all of its many benefits and admittedly, there was a little nostalgia in there that influenced me as well.

Here are just some of the benefits pomegranate seed oil:

• Penetrates deeply into the layers of the skin

• Reinvigorates skin reversing skin damage

• Fights against free radicals due to the omega 5 fatty acids

• Helps to improve texture of skin via pro-estrogen

• Due to its anti inflammatory properties it controls acne, reduces scarring and soothes minor irritation

Has the ability to right against prostate cancer

• Has anti-aging properties stimulating cellular regeneration and rejuvenation.
